Blue-and-white Covered
Meiping Vase with Peony
Decor
Yung-lo period (A.D. 1403-
1424)
Ming Dynasty
Height 35.6cm
This vase has a small
round mouth, a short neck,
a full shoulder, and a belly
whose lower part tapers
inwards. The transparent
glaze has a hint of blue.
The shoulder is painted with
"ju-i" cloud motifs and lotus
flowers, while the belly is
decorated with intertwined
peonies. The blue-and-white
coloration varies in depth,
creating a vivid effect.
